Atsugi Beer is celebrated among beer geeks for its bold, flavorful creations and its old but charming taproom that many have made the pilgrimage to in the small town of Atsugi, Kanagawa. Its long-time brewer, Mochizuki, is also very friendly and part of the place’s appeal.
Atsugi Beer is not very well known outside of Kanagawa prefecture, or even the small town of Atsugi. Neither is Green Bud, perhaps the best local bar serving craft beer. Its tap list is extensive and affable owner Watanabe is quite knowledgeable, too. The two businesses together are perhaps worth a trip if you’re in the area, and they’ve team up for some collaborations over the year.
It seems only natural that Atsugi Beer would create some unique house beers for its neighbor, Green Bud. The curiously named “Cash from Beer” series saw its third batch brewed over the summer. It was a relatively low abv (5%) American-style pale ale with mild bitterness but an ample helping of aroma hops. They just brewed batch four on September 27th. Come mid-October, it should be ready for you to taste; we don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you make the short trip from Tokyo or Yokohama.
