Hanshin Racecourse Craft Beer Summit 2023 will be held on 9/2 and 9/3 at a special area inside the JRA Hanshin Racecourse in Takarazuka, Hyogo. As admission is free, it’s a good opportunity for any that have never been to a racecourse to get a glimpse of what it’s like.
The seven breweries participating in the event come from a wide array of prefectures ranging from Kyushu to Kanto. Some are making their first appearance in the Kansai region. The featured breweries are AMAKUSA SONAR BEER (Kumamoto), Himitsu Beer (Mie), Totopia Brewery (Aichi), West Coast Brewing (Shizuoka), Off Trail / Far Yeast Brewing (Yamanashi), VERTERE (Tokyo), and Yuya Boys (Yuya Hayashi of Yoyogi’s Watering Hole teaming up with various Japanese brewers).
Though there won’t be races held at the Takarazuka venue during the event, attendees can place bets and view races taking place at three other JRA racecourses on monitors while enjoying their craft beer of choice. Expect the beginning of September in Osaka to still be hot, and while there is no doubt that beer really hits the spot on a steamy summer day, visitors will appreciate that the event is going to be held in an air-conditioned room where the box seats are located. Additionally, seating and photo booths will be set up in the paddock (the enclosure where horses are kept prior to the race), allowing patrons to drink beer in an area not usually accessible to the public. There will be a variety of food trucks working the event and some of the kiosks at the racecourse will also be serving.
During the Craft Beer Summit there will be raffles for which visitors can sign up simply by drinking beer. Winners will receive original event items produced in collaboration with the seven breweries, such as T-shirts, stickers, and insulated cooler bags.
Now that COVID is in our rearview mirror, the summer of 2023 is seeing beer festivals return to Japan after years of postponement. Much to the delight of thirsty beer fans, there is now a plethora of great choices to add to your calendar. Be sure to book the first weekend of September for a trip to JRA Hanshin Racecourse.
