We predominantly associate the word sommelier with wine, but there are beer sommeliers out there too. Though a brewer could painstakingly craft a beautiful brew, it could reach the consumer in less than ideal conditions due to mishandling after leaving the brewery. Certified Diplom Beer Sommeliers act as a bridge between brewer and consumer. This internationally recognized certification is of great value to brewing professionals, those in sales, distribution, and retail, and even beer fans who want to deepen their knowledge of the beverage. Courses to obtain this certification will be offered from September of this year. Graduates are eligible for eventually competing in the World Cup of Beer Sommeliers. Online courses are offered, making it easy for participants outside of the Tokyo area to enroll.
