Qbrick

Qbrick has one of the biggest selections of fine beer in Japan, much less in Osaka where there really are very few choices, despite the city’s size. In addition to over a dozen taps, this friendly neighborhood bar offers over 200 kinds of bottled beer from some 40 different countries. Best of all, the prices are good and the environment, casual and relaxing.

Roughly twelve taps are reserved for craft, with an additional pair of hand pumps (Qbrick also serves Guiness and another mainstream Japanese beer). Beyond the domestic craft you’re likely to find the occasional German, Belgian or American guest draft. Proprietor Yamamoto-san is often at craft beer festivals hunting out the good beers of the season so you need not worry about range and quality. Most pints are a quite reasonable ¥900, with a few weighing in at ¥1000. Half pints are generally between ¥650 and ¥700. Bottles include craft selections as well as some decent world brands. Another bonus about the bottles: you can grab some to go!

Qbrick’s food is, like the bar, casual and completely approachable. Chow on some pub staples like fish & chips, chicken & chips or nachos. The hotdogs are something of a house specialty, though the sausage plate is better for sharing. Most of the items on the menu are only ¥900 or less.

Aged wood and warm lighting lend Qbrick a atmosphere suited for drinking in comfort, and the generally congenial customers will likely keep you there for another pint. Capacity doesn’t allow much more than forty, and even that would be a cozy fit. The basement area provides additional seating and is great for larger, rowdier groups. Qbrick’s motto is “No beer geeks allowed.” Yamamoto wants you to enjoy your beer, not sit there and criticize it. He does what he can to ensure you won’t have to.
